Care
Textile Care Instructions
Hand washing your Gryphon apparel is always recommended.
Remove all protective armour before washing and use a mild liquid detergent. It is essential that all detergent residue is fully rinsed from your garment to maintain maximum performance. We recommend liquid detergent, as it contains fewer surfactants.
Hang your textile Gryphon garment to dry at room temperature. Do not place items in the dryer, as this may damage seam seal treatments and reflective detailing.
If your textile garment has heavily soiled areas, we recommend pre-treating those areas with a pre-wash spray for best results. Please follow the pre-wash spray manufacturer’s instructions carefully (Shout has worked effectively for us).
Do not use cleaning products that contain bleach, solvents, or other harsh chemicals. Do not scrub waterproof or breathable membranes. If your item includes multiple layers (thermal liner, rain layer, or puffer layer), wash each layer separately.
Do not iron Gryphon garments. Never use fabric softeners, as they will destroy the functionality of the membrane.
We recommend spraying your clothing monthly with 3M Scotchgard protective spray. Please use caution around rubberized design elements, as the spray may cause damage to these areas.
When not in use, store your garment in a dry space. For prolonged storage, a cotton garment bag will provide the best protection.
Improper care of your Gryphon motorcycle clothing will void your warranty.
Leather Care Instructions
Water Resistance
Protect your Gryphon leather by making it water resistant. There are many leather protector and waterproofing products available, but it is important to read labels carefully before purchasing.
A silicone polymer spray or an acrylic co-polymer spray will help preserve your leather’s appearance and shine. Grease-based or wax-based products offer stronger protection but are not recommended for jackets, as they may affect color, longevity, shine, and smell.
Always check the product label to determine how long water resistance will last. Reapplication is typically required every several weeks or months. While these treatments improve water resistance, they will not make your jacket fully waterproof, even if the product claims otherwise.
Never immerse a leather jacket in water or place it in a washing machine.
Conditioning
Apply leather conditioner occasionally to restore natural oils and prevent excessive dryness or cracking. However, avoid over-conditioning, as too much oil can clog the pores and impact the jacket’s color and longevity. Only condition your jacket if it begins to feel dry or stiff.
When selecting a conditioner:
-
Ensure the product is suitable for your specific type of leather (especially important for nubuck or suede).
-
Pure mink oil or other natural animal oils are ideal, but may darken the leather.
-
Products containing wax or silicone may dry out leather over time, though they may be a more affordable option with less color change. Use sparingly.
-
Never use products containing mineral oil, petroleum, or “saddle soap,” as these can cause significant damage.
Polishing
Polish smooth leather jackets only on rare occasions. While polish can enhance shine, it may also discolor, dry out, or clog the leather surface.
Always test any new product on a hidden area first. Buff with a cloth until a glossy finish is achieved.
Do not polish suede or other soft, fuzzy leathers. Attempting to create a glossy finish will permanently damage the texture.
Do not use shoe polish, even if it is intended for leather shoes.
Salt Removal
In damp winter conditions, white salt deposits may form on leather. Remove salt promptly using a damp cloth to prevent dry spots and cracking. Allow the leather to air dry, then apply conditioner to the affected area.
Drying Wet Leather
If your Gryphon jacket becomes wet, hang it evenly on a hanger and allow it to dry at room temperature. Remove any items from the pockets to prevent stretching of the wet leather. Keep the jacket away from direct heat sources such as radiators or airing cupboards.
If the leather becomes thoroughly soaked, apply conditioner once it has fully dried.
Improper care will void your warranty.
